Importance of an Oil Change

Brought to you by Pearson Honda

We all know that getting regular maintenance for your Honda is an integral part of car ownership. It's something that you can't ignore, especially if you want your vehicle to last. That's why we want to focus on a more specific part of what that regular maintenance usually entails. We are, of course, talking about getting an oil change. This is something that people often put off as often as they can, instead of just dealing with the short service appointment that it can usually be, especially at Pearson Honda. Today we want to explain to you why you should be getting an oil change at least twice a year, and how it really helps prevent damage, and promotes a vehicle that is working the way it was created to. Keep reading down below for more information!

Extend engine life

The first reason we have for why you should be taking your oil changes seriously is just the fact that getting an oil change really does promote a longer life for your engine. We are not being hyperbolic here, merely stating a truth. The better you take care of your vehicle, and by extension your engine, the longer you'll be able to continue driving it around. By skipping oil changes, you could end up with costly repairs that might not be worth it in the end. So, get that oil change, and keep your vehicle around longer.

Lubricates engine

You might be curious as to the point of oil in an engine, and why it could even cause enough damage to mean costly repairs. The point of engine oil is to lubricate all of the parts inside of the engine. That's because engines are made out of metal, and those small parts are moving quickly right next to each other. You want to avoid as much heat and friction as possible in a unit like this, which you can't do without a lubricant like oil. When that lubricant breaks down, it means the entire system starts to suffer.

Reduces build-up

When the oil that we have been discussing starts to break down, it turns into something other than oil. The result ends up being something that is called 'sludge', which is broken down oil with dust, dirt, and even metal shavings from the metal pieces inside of the engine. Sludge can be incredibly detrimental to the entire innerworkings, and you want to do everything you possibly can do to avoid an engine with sludge in it.
