At the halfway point of the Skyline, the luxurious Skyline resort is a great place to grab a nice meal or rent a cabin that overlooks the Shenandoah Valley. If you continue south, you'll hit the Blue Ridge Parkway to walk the beautiful walking trails.

Presidential Homes Trip

Virginia is the home of leaders, as eight presidents have called the state home, and most of the states are within a quick drive of one another. The route of the presidents takes you through Washington's Mount Vernon, Jefferson's Monticello, Madison's Montpelier, Monroe's Ash-Lawn Highland, Taylor's Montebello, and the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library. If you get an early enough start, you should be able to see all of them in a weekend as it is one of the most scenic drives in the state.

The Crooked Road

If you're into the area's music, you're going to want to check out Virginia's Crooked Road! This route is located in the southwest part of the state and traverses more than 300 miles. Several stops are available along the way, including museums, historic places, and cultural centers. Notable venues are available such as the Birthplace of Country Music, the Ralph Stanley Museum, and Heartwood Museum. If you want to explore this unique route, plan your trip around one of the numerous festivals such as the Blacksburg Market Square Jam, Clinch Mountain Music Fest, or Floydfest. Though no matter what time of year you go, you're in for a very memorable trip!

Eastern Shore Weekend

Though the Eastern Shore is often overlooked, it should not be ignored! Start at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel and then head through Cape Charles, where the welcome center will guide you through the best parts of the shore. There is no shortage of gift shops and specialty stores, and if you're into nature, Kiptopeke offers miles of coastal trails. As you move north, check out Onancock as it has plenty of history, such as Kerr House, housing artifacts, exhibits, and several events that celebrate the history and heritage of the area. We highly recommend Wallops Island as it's an exciting destination if you want to see rockets fly into outer space. Of course, no trip to the coast would be complete without a trip to the Assateague lighthouse and National Shoreline.

Monticello Wine Trail

If you're in the area for the Presidential Homes road trip, then you might want to conclude your trip with the Monticello Wine Trail. There are 30 wineries located around the Charlottesville area, and they are all within a short drive of one another. The trails are broken up into five loops, each of which is a whole weekend trip!
